First Time Skating

One of Kayci's best friends had her seventh birthday at the local skating rink here in Brenham yesterday. We were really excited because it was the first time for both Kayci and Noble to skate.

We learned a lot of lessons yesterday, including:

1. Somewhere about 1983, time stopped inside the Brenham Silver Wings skating rink. But in a totally awesome way.
2. Even the kids who everything seem to come naturally to sometimes have something that they're not good at immediately.
3. Even despite tears and exhaustion and little brothers, skating rinks are lots of fun!

Here are some photo from the party. To see more, check out the album on Flickr:

The evening started out with such promise...

But then it got a little rough when it wasn't as easy as it looks...

Actually, not everyone thought skating was all that tough...

But thanks to these cool little frames with wheels, all wasn't lost.

And before long, everyone was having a great time as skating started to get a little easier.

And then, in a completely awesome turn of events, the skies opened up, the angels began singing and there were nachos! And Pepsi Throwback!!! And candy! And cake!!!

change is good

admit it, you're smiling at that one.
isn't he cute?
he's amazing and funny and messy and sweet
and silly and mischievous...all the things you could hope
for a little boy to be. he's wonderful.
all the pieces fell into place yesterday and today it's final.
as of april 1st, nobley will no longer go to daycare.
when i have to be in houston for work,
our friend heather will let him join her family for the day.
God has been speaking and pushing and pulling
and working on this for months now.
i finally got out of the way.
i don't have the answers as to how it's all going to work out,
but i know he needs more of me than he's getting.
and i know i'm way excited to see what God has planned,
because
i am absolutely clueless.

Simple Things

Daddy worked through lunch today, so we took him a sandwich and then the 3 of us had a picnic to the park. It's simple things like that that make me love our little life in this little town. We had a nice surprise, too--the city is running thd antique carousel this week. I lost track, but we rode it for quite a while! Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Spring Break!

Today marks the "official" start of Kayci's Spring Break. That means the kids and I are at home in our PJs still, and Daddy's off at work. :) Pajama Day is a rare occurrence around here, and it just seemed like the appropriate start to our break. I'm a go, go, do, do kind of Mommy, but my kids love being at home above all else. It's kind of fun to see what they can come up with when they have time to really get into toys and art...well, you know what Noble comes up with--a mess. But Kayci, well, she always comes up with something that makes me smile.

Here's what she's up to so far this morning...

She made a doll...

...and she's decorating the house for St. Patrick's Day.

OH! That reminds me--James will have to post about the TWO four-leaf clovers they found on the hill yesterday. And at some point we'll post about Noble's new friend, Lucky, and our adventures at Build-A-Bear. And maybe we'll tell you about the awesome day we had yesterday with Ronny's family and Grandma...we enjoyed the beautiful weather, the kids played, and the grown ups enjoyed some good (but healthy!) food. Fun! Hmm.

Silly Saturday

Today we saw a really cute red VW with black ladybug dots. James and I both said, "now THAT's a Kayci car!" She piped up from the backseat, "No, it's not. I want a pink..."
(now, we're expecting her to say slug bug or something...)
...armored car."
(Buh-huh? Nope, haven't a clue.)

Later, in Target, James was picking on her as we walked by her clothes section. He grabbed an empty hanger off a rack and said, "hey, Bitty, bet this invisible dress would look great on you!" And she says..."I'm wearing it right now."
(That's my snappy girl!)

And much, much later, we had to run to College Station for a couple of errands. Since we didn't get the kids ice cream as promised (and because it was, well, 9:00 pm), we just let them pick out some candy for the ride home. Kayci picked peanut butter cups and Noble picked plain M&Ms. And then a few minutes later he walked up sucking on a push pop, so he got that, too (yes, we paid for it). We got loaded in the car and a few minutes later from the back seat we heard, "Nandy...I wike nandy!!!!" (Probably had to be there, but the kid has a SERIOUS sweet tooth.)

That's just a little bit of our Saturday. Hope yours has been just as silly!

Noble's 2nd Birthday Party

Yesterday was Noble's 2nd birthday party. It was fairly small, but the kids seemed to have a lot of fun. They ran around in circles inside the "kitchen" building at Fireman's Park in Brenham and played on the new playground outside.

Kristi did an awesome job decorating (with some help from Kayci), and she even had game stations for the kids. And she made the best tasting cupcakes ever.

If you were there, thank you for coming. If you weren't, here are some photos from the party! And be sure to check out the complete set on Flickr.
