We finally did it. James and I haven't had flag shirts since 2000, and then we just bought the tanks for pajamas. But this year, we bit the bullet and bought family shirts. At the time, I justified the purchase by saying, oh, we'll wear them, they're soft tees. Well, we haven't worn them. Not one of us. And now that the day is actually here, I'd kind of rather wear my red/white/blue sundress than capris. But, Kayci's WAY excited to have matching shirts, and she just rediscovered a flag belt that came from Hannah, so she can't wait to get dressed.
Speaking of, we're about to get dressed and head over to Chappell Hill for one of our 2 favorite 4th of July traditions, the parade. It's nice to go to a parade where we don't have to worry (so much) about kids getting squished, and the crowd's more a crowd of friends than people elbowing for great spots. The good thing is, in Chappell Hill, they're all great spots! We will get there a little early, though, to have time to hang out and say hi to friends we haven't seen this summer and also claim our favorite spot. :) After that, it's home for awhile to recharge and then back out to Washington for barbecues and fireworks tonight. Can't wait!
I hope you are all having a wonderful 4th of July, as well...remember to take a minute to be grateful for everything that being an American means, and for all of the men and women who have fought--and are still fighting--for our right to be free. That's what it's all about!
